This powerhouse organization does extensive research and advocacy around economic and social policies that affect farmers and food sovereignty in Canada. Their activities include producing and disseminating policy statements and holding annual conventions, and they are particularly active in sounding the alarm on Canada's Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement with the European Union and in opposing genetically modified crops. The Youth Network links rural and urban youth in building a just and economically viable food system. Any youth, including non-farm youth, 14 to 35 years of age can join the NFU. The NFU is also a member of La Via Campesina, a global sustainable agriculture movement.
