Farm management (3 years or less) - I have studied a wide range of permaculture & no-till natural farming modalities and have developed an integrated, holistic, profitable method of small scale, intensive organic farmin. I have had success with this in working in farmland in Arcadia, Greece as I am a dual citizen. Having recently moved to BC, I am looking to expand my vision in innovating market gardening in a way that bridges the gas between ecology and economy.
Other experience/agricultural/business training - I have independently studied and integrated, via trial and error, the methods of Fukuoka, Curtis Stone, Panos Manikis, as well as other internationally recognized and renowned farmers and market gardeners.
Do you have a business plan?
Yes - I use horticultural designs based on soil sampling and careful observation and consideration of the land setting (so as to leverage natural conditions towards yield optimization). I hone in on the most adequate crop combinations, and then pick the ones that have the quickest turnover and proximate market demand. I use no-till methods that have shown considerable success when accompanied with the right kind of herbicides, herbal pest control solutions, and balanced compost and manure management.
Do you have financial resources available to start your farm?
Yes - The methods I use are very budget conscious. I have my own savings, I am looking for land to farm on where the % of my profits can be shared.
Do you have access to other financial resources (such as a financial partner, loan, etc.) to start your farm?'
No - Seeding nurseries and other basic equipment would be great help but not necessary. I also use a cement mixer of a nice trick in preparing massive amounts of seed pellets but again, nice but not necessary.
Project
Farm Name
The Tao Earth Farm
Farm Project Description
The Tao Earth farm project sees the infinite complexity of nature, and recognizes that agronomic success always depends on a balance of opposites. In its methods the Tao Earth Farm always takes each specific land lot as a new scientific venture, in understanding that every farm or orchard will have its unique traits that can be harmonized into better yields. This leverages one thing that mono-culture industrial farming cannot: using unique combinations of biodiversity to facilitate optimum soil fertility, the #1 factor in providing healthy yields and minimizing pest infiltration. In terms of scaling this modality of scientifically powered and Taoist philosophy inspired localized market gardening, the use of Palekar's horticultural cross-combinations can be used. By exploring, studying, understanding, and working with the natural patters of nature at hand, the Tao Farm project vision aims to innovate in the space of vegetable agriculture.
