I am looking for the right opportunity for myself and my daughters. We have recently left Calgary, and are WWOOFing in BC. My oldest daughter is attending UVic, and my youngest recently graduated from high school. My youngest has farm and culinary aspirations, but faces some challenges and will be living with me for at least the next few years. My goal is to have a property where I can start with laying hens, a market gardens, and a cash crop like garlic or onions. Expanding over the years to dairy and wool sheep and bees. I use regenerative, organic and permaculture practices. I am an avid bread baker and pizza maker and would love to incorporate these into a side business that supports the farm income. Ideal location would be in the Kootenays or Boundary. I have 3 years of experience keeping honeybees and extracting honey. Currently gaining experience with chickens, sheep, alpacas and gardens. At one time, I converted my front yard to permaculture that included a rain garden, herb spiral, fruit hedges and a garden mandala. Sadly, the new owners converted it back to lawn. Over the past couple years I have been focusing on building wicking beds in my back yard and growing vegetables. While my girls were small, I had a home based artisan business where I sold my handmade and unique toques at the local farmers market and online. When I was in Calgary, I had a side hustle baking and selling artisan sourdough bread. I am hoping to find a farm owner who is interested in helping a new farmer along for a possible permanent placement. Must be LGBTQ friendly. I have a BSc in Environmental Management and a keen interest in ecology, biodiversity and food security. I am currently having a tiny house built - looking for land to put it on! Happy to share the land with the landowner. Open to many different types of agreements and arrangements. We really want to grow our own food, produce enough to share and sell in a sustainable and earth respecting way. My tiny house has a solar power generation system and composting toilet. Besides space for the home and gardens, the only needs will be water availability, area for grey water discharge (or septic), space for the solar array, vehicles and storage. I hope to bring a small greenhouse (8x10 ft) as well, which would hopefully be placed adjacent to the garden. Ideally 2 acres to start with room to expand for sheep and future crops.
- ready to plant or minimal work required to start planting the first season would be ideal - raw state if help is available for clearing - will need soil testing to determine amendments needed, if any
