I’m a small-scale food processor that’s fundamentally fuelled by beans. I’m looking for agrarians who are interested in growing drying beans crops on a medium to large scale. I take this may be a multi-year operation to establish - at the least, I’m looking to have a conversation with any growers who may be interested to discuss the logistics of this idea, and to how we may be able to create something mutually beneficial through an established supply chain.
I have a heavy focus on sustainability and strengthening our food systems and communities through BC agriculture; I see the beans as being a catalyst to that goal.

Project
Farm Name
Farm Project Description
will organically grow vegetables and seed:
Drying bean crops – Black Turtle, Red Kidney, Green Split Peas, Navies, Red Lentils, Pinto
Vegetables – Garlic, Tomatoes, Onions
Herbs – sage, rosemary, fennel, bay leaves
Eventually I’d like to build a small scale food processing facility, this could be as small as a simple commercial kitchen to start out, and would be focused towards value added products.
Finding others with value added ambitions on or off the farm is a keen interest.
This coming year, I’ll use around 100kg of predominantly Pintos, Black Turtles, Split Peas and Navies; I would be interested in using lesser known varieties that may take better in our climates. In a 3–4 year outlook, I may be using around 500kg annually.
Why beans? As I understand, they’re one of the most sustainable crops that we can grow – low water consumption, high pest resistance, and nitrogen fixing properties. I recognize that BC does not have prolific pulse growth, though I’ve heard a few solid testaments that larger scale production could be completely feasible.
