The farm is aiming at production of some soil-grown mushrooms which are rotated with vegetables and fruits or maybe even rice for the pest control and soil maintenance purpose. Some simple protective structure, such as plastic film tubes, needs to be constructed on the land to carry out production. Also needed are some types of structure like a shed for storage and preparation materials needed for the production. Since the mushroom will be grown on the ground, and differ from popular mushroom production method in BC right now (I’ve read the Guide for Mushroom Production from BC Ministry of Agriculture website), no fermentation step is necessary, so that there would not be much of an odor problem. As for the spent material after mushroom production, they will be used fertilizers or compost for vegetable, fruits or ornamental species production. So the waste is recycled into the whole production system. Although the farm is oriented to be environment friendly and responsive, and focused on sustainable farming practices, and mushrooms need very little chemicals or in many cases not at all, lawful agrochemical will be used to vegetables and fruits if it deems absolutely necessary. The fresh produce will mainly be sold to Greater Vancouver region and adjacent province as well. Some of the unsold mushrooms can be dehydrated for longer shelf life. Besides mushrooms and vegetables, a small number of fowls (chickens ducks), may be raised in the farm.
