Farm Project Description

Hello! I am 66 years old. In my lifetime so far, I have had a great fortune to have been able to study with very excellent professionals in a number of fields. I have over 40 years of Farm and Livestock Experience, and both formal education and hard earned ability and skill to compliment my experience. I have agricultural certifications and diplomas from Guelph University in Ontario, Olds College in Alberta, the American Farrier’s Association, the British Carriage Driving Society and the BC Standardbred Association. I helped establish the Goat Milk Dairy Certification program in Canada, am comfortable around milking animals, Caprine or Bovine, and I was key in the implementation of egg candling in several small family poultry operations in Alberta. I have certifications as a medical office administrator/manager, certified personal trainer, recreational massage therapist, yoga instructor, organizational consultant, am a Cordon Bleu trained chef, and a historical costume designer and creator for film, TV, theatre and cosplay. I am a level 2 Parelli Method Natural Horse trainer. I have extensive livestock and poultry experience. I have hosted almost 200 English as a Second Language students from all over the world, been a nanny, a house cleaner and an art teacher and been a help desk technician for AT&T and AOL. I built my own 40’x 9 1/2’, 320 sq.ft. Movable Home on Wheels in 2019, by myself, with no help because of Covid. The electrical and plumbing/propane were certified by Red Seal professionals and my home won a Habitat for Humanity first place award. It is fully insured, and off grid capable. I do not produce any black water waste. My grey water waste is safe enough to drink. I use a water catchment system as well. I am a problem solver and a professional researcher. I have all these capabilities, talent, skills, knowledge and abilities, and am reaching out to farmers seeking a long term situation, living and working on their land, in exchange for a place to park my Movable Home, my Seacan storage unit, and have my miniature carriage horses (I have three miniature horses trained to pull carriage and harrows). I need a place to keep my flock of rainbow layer chickens (who are fed non-gmo, organic chicken feed and all the organic veggies I can give them), and my registered beehive. I have two purebred Toggenburg dairy goat doelings, who I plan to breed to get milk for home use and use in cosmetic and medicinal products I sell at Farmers Markets.i would be open to building a permaculture organic practices garden as well. I would bring portable animal shelters, hay storage, chicken coop and fencing/Roundpen for my horses, goats and poultry (who are all fed organicly). I am quite self contained, completely off-grid capable. I don’t party, don’t smoke and don’t have a lot of visitors that aren’t farm clients. I am infinitely flexible and capable of accommodating almost any farm goal of the landowners. I have excellent references and will happily provide them.

Land & Features Desired

Total Land Size (acres)
I am hoping to secure 1 acre for a home base on a property of 3 acres or more, to help the landowner realize tax savings from achieving farm status.
Wooded Area (acres)
Yes - I am ok with a wooded area, and I am willing to have it cleared professionally, for the ideal long term arrangement.
Cultivable Area (acres)
A total acreage or farm of 3 acres or more is required for farm status. Cultivable land is not a requirement, as I am well able to adjust my farming practices to any type of soil. The only requirement is that there is at least 1/2 an acre of the leased/loaned land that is relatively flat with a reasonably close access for vehicles. The flat area can be treed, in fact the entire 1 acre being leased/loaned can be treed, provided the landowner(s) permit a portion to be cleared for the Tiny House pad.
Possibility to expand area currently available (acres)
Yes - If the arrangement is working well, and the landowner is in agreement, expansion is an option I’m open to negotiate.
Zoning
Either
Preferred current state of the surface of the cultivable area

My only requirement is that the land area be 3 acres or more, and at least 1/2 an acre be relatively flat to be prepared as a parking pad for my Tiny House. As I use a variety of permaculture methods, the land can be raw and undeveloped. I will work with whatever land and space exists. I require a minimum of five year contract for use of the land, ideally longer. I will cover all costs related to my farm activities, all of which will be preapproved in writing by the landowner(s), with the exception of perimeter fencing. The landowner must cover the cost of the perimeter fencing of the area permitted for my use.

Open to landowner residing on property
Yes - I am respectful and a private person. I am open to the landowner(s) residing on the land.
Need farm buildings
No
Need fenced land
Yes - Ideally the land will already have perimeter fencing, but if not, I am happy to provide the labour of fencing the property. The cost of fencing materials for the perimeter fence would be borne by the landowners.
Need farm machinery and tools
No
Need established water source and infrastructure
In an ideal situation there would be water available, but I am capable and experienced at setting up water cistern systems and would set up a water catchment system anyway. I have been off-grid for three years hauling all the water for my livestock and household use.
Need on-site housing
Yes - I have a 40’x9 1/2’ Red Seal Certified and fully insured off-grid capable Tiny House which I require space to park. It is skirted when in place, and qualifies as a Secondary Residence under the ALR new directive of August 2021.
Production type
  • Other - Honey, eggs
Type of agriculture
  • Organic -
Soil needs
Soil that drains well.
Will acquire commercial insurance
Yes - I have always carried commercial liability insurance for my carriage driving operation and beekeeping.
