Farm Project Description

We (Kale n Jenn) are an earthy permaculture oriented couple looking to live in reciprocity with a piece of land and community. We are into creating tight energy loops to grow food for ourselves and the local folks in the area. We are open to building soil with livestock, compost teas, and crop rotations, utilizing organic standards that benefit both the land and us all! Kale has 2 children of school age. They attend elementary in Courtenay, but we all have hopes of homeschooling in the future. We just had another little baby! He's super cute and wee, and will be an asset to any farm operations. We encourage nature based learning and wholistic growth! All of us appreciate a simple and rustic life, and require few amenities. We are currently living in an RV in a barn that Kale built in a swamp in Black Creek, Vancouver Island. We arranged a 5 year lease with the help of the amazing Young Agrarians last year. Unfortunately, the landholders have decided to sell. We must be prepared to leave this summer. While here we put in a lot of effort, including fencing 2.2 acres, building a huge barn with rain catchment, putting nearly half an acre of broom and rocky till into vegetable production, started a CSA weekly food box that ran for 16 weeks and serviced 7 families in the area, built a small greenhouse out of tarp garages, raised 30 plus Muscovy ducks for egg production, demolished a dilapidated old house, and attained farm status for the land holders. We don't mess about.
