YA Apprenticeship - Tee Two Land & Cattle Co.

ABOUT TEE TWO LAND & CATTLE Tee Two Farms is located near Kelliher, Saskatchewan – Treaty 4 Territory // The Thompson family has been farming in the Parkland area since the late 1800s. The land has provided a healthy, desirable life and sustained 5 generations and the 6th is now arriving. Paula and Duane live on the farm and have 4 grown children and 2 grandchildren. Their son, Cole and his wife, Michelle, and their baby, Ty farm with Duane and Paula. Their son Adam recently came back to the farm to be a part of the crew. Their daughter Shelagh, is a nurse and lives up the road with her family, and their daughter Holly farms with her partner near Vanscoy. Duane’s parents David and Carole still live on the farm and are enjoying retirement. // The farm is a cattle ranch and a crop and pasture rotation. The family enjoys integrating the cattle on the land to improve soil health. They grow canola, oats, barley, peas and wheat. The cow herd rotates around the annual crop fields in the fall and winter and the aftermath is an important component of their diet. The farm goals are to run a profitable operation and provide a desirable lifestyle and environment for those that chose to be involved. // About the apprenticeship: // The farm is a very diversified operation and there will be a wide range of jobs including equipment operation (field work and feeding cattle), cattle handling, fencing (mostly electric) being observant and communicating well with the team. Each of these provides a skill and learning opportunity. // As part of the apprenticeship, you will meet with other apprentices across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Alberta who are part of the Young Agrarians Apprenticeship program. Field days, learning opportunities and potlucks will be planned with the Manitoba group at each hosts farm. You will also be invited to attend a regenerative or organic food conference during or following the apprenticeship.
