multiple areas available for use - 7 acre hay field, multiple structures for animals, space for gardens
LAND: The 7.5 acre hay field is at the moment share cropped with a neighbor and is available for change. There is a 50x20 hay barn which holds 500 bales or so. The south portion of the field could be used for vegetable crops, as well as the large garden space inside the "resident" portion of property. Also available is a 100x100 paddock, which in its time has been a sturdy area for sheep, including the electric fence, these past years the turkeys love the space to chase the crickets! This area now has a drainage ditch/pond for the underground water we pump from under our house, and it also drains the land in spring, or when our neighbors overwater up slope from us. There is a 16 by 6 by 9ft high greenhouse attached to the garden tool shed fully equipped, rototiller, lawn tractor included. We have raspberries, and strawberries, 2 pear trees, one peach, 3 various species of apple, three plum trees, gooseberry and elderberry shrubs. We have the plastic to cover a 20' long hoop house, just need to build a PVC structure. We also have a single car garage with an attached shop (Leo's geology shop). Many tools available for fencing repairs etc. in the garage. In either the inside garden or the field space there is access to power and water, both city and irrigation sources. The chicken barn is capable of housing 500 chicks to the 3 week stage, after that there are several paddocks allowing them to relax in the grass and under fruit trees. In a separate paddock a smaller barn has been used for (20) laying hens, but will house 125 chicks short term, 100 turkeys to the 4 week stage, although I find they only use it in colder temps, they shelter from the rain under the soapberry, gooseberry and spruce tree areas. This year I had to start two batches of turkeys - availability issue this year, and that still worked out well as I moved the older turkeys to larger pasture areas after 4 weeks old.
The current farmers are amenable to mentorship opportunities, for someone looking to farm the land short-term. They have a pending long-term agreement with another farming family, but would like the land to be used short-term if possible.
