Agriculture-related degree - Oenology and Viticulture
Farm management (3 years or less) - 1
General farming (3 years+) - 5, across a variety of farms, off-grid communal style, small market gardens, small biodynamic vineyard/winery projects, experience with wide array of vegetables, some flowers, microgreens, some fruits, goats, laying hens, meat chickens
Do you have a business plan?
No - I am quite open and flexible to ideas and possibilities here as I believe each arrangement with a landowner is different and it is important to me to work together to make a plan that fits everyone’s desires. I am open to starting a small farming business, in the first year, likely being especially small scale and becoming accustomed with the land and production, open to keeping it small if it works or if it makes sense to grow a bit, to do this as well.
Do you have financial resources available to start your farm?
No - Some savings and always the openness to apply for young farmer start-up grants where possible.
Do you have access to other financial resources (such as a financial partner, loan, etc.) to start your farm?'
No

Farm Project Description
I would love to start a small mixed agriculture market garden, focused on growing an array of vegetables in addition to a small area for personal (and/or shared with land owner) with flowers/native/medicinal plants. Many products are location and arrangement dependent, cultivating a small grapevine/garagiste project would be a dream but is not possible in many locations in BC so remains a background idea. I am looking to lease land with the openness of something longer term should arrangements and relationships be fitting for both parties. I believe the longer length allows for stability in starting a project and cultivating proper care for the land and putting in the inputs, in time, energy, and financially, to increase biodiversity on site. The ideal situation would be the opportunity to reside on that land as well, in a tiny home, self-provided possible, would be perfect to best care for the place and knowing that farming takes a great amount of one’s time, however I understand this is not always possible. Self-sustainment and off-grid options are welcomed. I am open to collaboration and knowledge sharing with landowners or as something completely independent, but it is important to keep a relationship that feels positive for everyone involved. I believe it’s in situations like this that the best ideas can be made. I hope this introduction is as open and flexible as I feel it, many ideas are possible. Thanks to all the landowners looking to share their property with young farmers without land!
