Other experience/agricultural/business training - I have worked in my own garden for many years and learned from my grandparents about growing food.
Do you have a business plan?
Yes - Step one is achieving funding and creating a rough plan. Once funding is achieved and a property is picked, a more in depth plan involving tools, plants, upkeep, budgeting for losses, and more. Once the budget is made, then it's time to schedule action and plan projects. My rough plan is to buy seeds, soil if the dirt is dirt and not soil, allot for land.
Do you have financial resources available to start your farm?
No
Do you have access to other financial resources (such as a financial partner, loan, etc.) to start your farm?'
Yes - grant as we cannot safely pay off a loan at this time.
Project
Farm Name
Farm Green
Farm Project Description
This farm is planned to be made with the intention of helping community and the environment. I have experienced true poverty and am just barely underneath the poverty line now. I hope to help get land to grow healthy food at affordable prices to my community. I also wish to create this farm to reduce CO2 emissions. Grocery stores are good but products need to be imported and / or shipped. This produces large amounts of CO2 not to mention most products people can afford are made irresponsibly (abusing the earth and animals in the name of large scale production). If we integrate more local farming, we could reduce a number of issues.

Preferred current state of the surface of the cultivable area
Little trees and land that is either clear or needs to be cleared.
Open to landowner residing on property
Yes - I'm okay with it
Need farm buildings
Yes - Later down the line I will need them but as of now, its not necessary.
Need fenced land
Yes - It helps keep animals that I don't own out. This is something definitely needed in BC.
Need farm machinery and tools
No
Need established water source and infrastructure
I would need a water port to attach to sprinklers. To start I can hand water but I plan on using at least an acre for growing plants alone. I would say my water volume would be higher than townhouse but smaller than a large scale farm.
Need on-site housing
Yes - I am going to need a tiny house or trailer for me, my husband, and my child (once shes born - due october 12th))
Production type
Vegetable - Mostly winter hardy vegetables like kale, cabbage, kohlrabi, turnips, potatoes, etc. I would not grow as much in the summer as I easily get heat stroke. I would most likely take summers off. I am on SSRI's which make me less able to loose heat, making me get heat stroke really easily.
Other - fruits in the summer. blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, etc.
Type of agriculture
Other - I would label my grown items as conventional until I get certification to label them organic.
Soil needs
A composted, well nourished soil. I'm not familiar with specific soil names though.
Will acquire commercial insurance
Yes - I am grateful for the land given and know this act of kindness is generally given by trustworthy individuals.
