Farm Project Description

We are a young couple with a mixed background in the agricultural, environmental, trades and non-profit sectors. Between us we have over ten years’ experience in working on and running farms. My partner has managed four farms, is a trained butcher and carpenter, and ran his own farm, butcher shop and contracting businesses. I have experience as a farm coordinator, working as a project coordinator for environmental non-profit projects including my own non-profit project, and I have a background in research biology projects of grassland ecosystems. We are both passionate about creating sustainable, resilient and connected local communities, and believe that community-oriented farming is a foundational part of this. Our farm vision is that of a medium-scale organic livestock and produce farm run based on regenerative agriculture and permaculture principles as much as possible. We want to contribute positively to the local ecology and local community with this project and serve as an example of food cultivation in harmony with the environment being a possible and accessible thing through workshops, work parties, a CSA program, U-pick days and more. We want to grow some larger field crops and have a small annual market garden and orchard. We want to raise egg chickens, pigs, and eventually dairy cows. As we acknowledge a truly sustainable and well-run farm takes time to establish, we have our farm planned out in sections and phases to be completed over the span of around a decade or so.
