Farm Project Description
Hello! I'm looking for a small plot of arable land on Salt Spring Island to start a CSA/market garden veggie farm. I would start with 1/4-1/2 acre of intensive veggie farming, with no till/low till organic practices, and expand by ~1/4 acre every season with other more perennial and large crop plantings.
Bio: We are a family of 3, my wife working full time as a teacher, and my 4 year old going to school soon. I will be farming fulltime, with help from my wife when not teaching and during the summer. We are very calm, quiet people, looking to live more connected to nature.
A well or municipal water with permit is necessary for irrigation, as well as being deer fenced.
We would be doing vegetables/fruit only, no animal products. Starting with greens, popular seasonal veg, heirlooms, and expanding to perennial fruit and veg in later years. Farm would be ran organically (not looking to certify right away), with permaculture/restorative practices.
