Land Seeker Details

Training
  • Farm management (3 years+) - I am originally from Nigeria with a background in farming. I grew up on a family farm, where I gained hands-on experience with various crops and livestock production. Before immigrating to Canada, I assisted my parents with farm management, growing food and cash crops like Maize(corn), potatoes, beans, leafy vegetables, banana, plantain, and cashew. We also raised livestock such as goats, chickens, ducks and snails.
  • General farming (3 years+) - Family Farm: For over a decade, I actively participated in the operations of my parents' farm, gaining expertise in sustainable practices, and adopting modern techniques along the way.
Do you have a business plan?
Yes - I plan to focus on organic vegetable and fruit production. Additionally, I intend to leverage my experience in livestock farming to meet the increasing demand for these products within my local community while providing a livelihood for my family. I also plan to have poultry for chicken and egg production. I will implement sustainable farming practices and draw on my passion for organic agriculture to ensure the success of my farm business. I'm open to integrating new approaches and technologies to optimize production and sustainability in my farming venture. My business plan includes market research, financial projections, and a detailed production schedule to ensure success.
Do you have financial resources available to start your farm?
Yes - I have some personal savings but intend to obtain a loan to supplement my savings.
Do you have access to other financial resources (such as a financial partner, loan, etc.) to start your farm?'
Yes - I intend to obtain a loan to supplement my personal savings. I am also exploring opportunities for grants, subsidies, or financial assistance programs available for new and aspiring farmers. As my farming venture develops, revenue generated from the sale of my farm products will serve as the primary source of financial resources to reinvest in the business, repay loans, and sustain ongoing operations.

Project

Farm Name
Capa's Bounty Farm
Farm Project Description

The objective is to continue my farming journey beyond gardening, which I currently do within the limited space in our house, with the goal of creating a sustainable and profitable agricultural enterprise. We aim to contribute to local food security, promote environmental stewardship, and provide a livelihood for my family and my community. Beginning with a focus on vegetable farming, our initial crops will include kale, chard, lettuce, tomatoes, and peppers. We aim to start with ¼ to 1 acre of land. Capa’s Bounty Farm plans to start with a herd of 25-50 goats, requiring approximately 5000 to 12,500 square feet for grazing. However, this may vary depending on factors such as supplemental feed availability, rotational grazing, and terrain. For poultry, we intend to begin with 30-50 chickens, needing around 100-150 square feet of indoor space and 250-500 square feet of outdoor space. Our project is driven by a desire to meet the growing demand for organic products in our community while providing a sustainable livelihood for our family. Drawing from over a decade of farming experience, we prioritize implementing sustainable practices such as crop rotation, natural fertilization, and humane animal treatment. Overall, our farm is about growing healthy food in a way that respects nature and helps our community thrive.
