My twin sister Michelle and I have had a dream to start a community based, sustainable farm and when COVID came and jumbled up our lives we decided it was time to start taking active steps towards this dream. Michelle is based in Squamish, and is looking for land there, and I am here in Pemberton. Our mission says: We are in business to serve, delight in, and share the value of farming. For it is in the growing of food that we truly experience and celebrate our dependency on the earth, each other, and powers unimaginable. Together we work both in and on the business. Michelle has a degree in Global Development that focused on global food systems. She works in the food industry now as a sustainability consultant and marketing coordinator and has been a board member for FarmFolk CityFolk as well as Responsible Organic Customers Association (ROCA). She has balanced this with gaining farming knowledge working for farmers in Ontario, Squamish, and Pemberton. For our business, she does everything from tracking our expenses to building our marketing strategy and more! I have a degree in Anthropology and minor in Archaeology that focused in many ways on how food has effected how we live, how the land impacts our bodies and our bodies impact the land, and the influence food has on a large economic scale right down to what happens whilst sitting around a dinner table. My work experience includes the growing, maintaining, and selling of plants for enjoyment and nourishment. I am a level 3 ski instructor and trainer in the winter and know what it means to set a goal and work towards it. I've worked to keep my business brain alive through volunteering as Chapter Lead for Protect Our Winters (POW) in Whistler and as supervisor at Whistler Blackcomb learning how to lead, and develop my administrative skills, and develop relationships with the community. I currently work "in" our business growing around 2,000 square feet of flowers with the support and guidance of farming friends. Currently we are growing dry flowers for bouquets that we sell to individual consumers and hopefully some cafes/restaurants come the fall. We hope to slowly expand our business to sell a few different vegetable products also direct to consumer and wholesale. As we develop as farmers we also would like to build our business to include small events. We hope to use the farm as a means to connect with our local community and the land we are on. We want to host educational talks, seasonal long table dinners for everyday consumers, and support other community events that share the joy in farming in a way that benefits both the consumer and the farming industry.
