1. Please tell us a little about yourself and your farming experience. I am a fun loving landless queer farmer living in Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast. When I am not teaching at Kinnikinnick elementary, I am dreaming up my new farming proejct, writing poetry, helping with my friends farming projects, and learning the synth. I use to have a small cut flower business where I grew flowers and seeds under the name Tiny Moon Flower Farm. The growing space that was gifted to me by not-for-profit One Straw Society which is tucked behind our local shopping area in Roberts creek. My focus was on seed saving, diversifying ecology, and growing medicinal/flower starts for my community. On Slow Sundays, I friend and I opened up FLOWERSHOP—a butterscotch coloured cabin under a massive kiwi vine is that is filled with various flower-related goodies for all to enjoy. Before Tiny Moon Flower Farm, I worked with various farming projects. My first introduction to farming was through woofing. I spent a summer on a organic lettuce farm in Montana and later worked abroad at 4 different organic farms in India. As a teacher in Vancouver, I started a rooftop garden project for Norma Rose Point. I facilitated many workshops about growing to elementary students and organized work parties with staff and parents. Right before the pandemic I moved to Abundance community farm to assistant in their community CSA project as well as farmed through the summer and lead weekly work parties. At abundance I also did a apprenticeship with Rupert Adams who has a seed/medicinal herb farm o the same property. I currently work part time at Grounded Acres Farm in Gibsons. I dream big for collective land with other folk wanting space to grow, heal, and dream. I dream big for a herbal classroom that all can access for free. I dream big for having a lab to create plant medicine and start a community apothecary! 2. What is your goal/objective in starting or expanding your farm? What would you like to achieve? My goal in starting this project is to provide my community with access to locally grown medicinal herb, seeds, and plant starts. I plan to achieve this with starting a community seasonal CSA with herbal medicine, run workshop about growing/making herbal medicine, and selling at local farmers market on the coast and pop ups in Vancouver. I am currently in the process of becoming a certified clinical herbalist ~ I want my business to be both a growing project that also has a component that directly support to people who want to be healing imbalances in their body. What this offer can be is currently not defined. The layout of this dream looks like clients are assisted with both herbal medicine formulated by me plus a garden plan that allows them to grow the plants that are necessary for their healing in their own spaces. I'd would assist in creating healing maps that involve clients learning how to grow medicinal plants that will assist people in their health imbalances but also provide my community with a framework and tools to be deepening their relationships with the plants. 3. What would you like to produce/sell? Please share any (business or other) planning you have done. Raw medicinal herbs for both community and other herbalist. Unique seeds ~ flowers, medicinals, specialty vegetables. Plant starts for spring. Potted medicinal plants for gardens and landscaping.
