Farm Project Description
ACAPC’s mission statement is: "Rooted in tradition, we grow with purpose and vision. Our commitment to excellence in agricultural production and service drives us to elevate the standards of farming and community well-being.”
We envision creating a network of farmers and cooperatives across the Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley dedicated to growing culturally significant African crops. This will benefit African diaspora communities by providing access to familiar foods and contributing to local food diversity, economic opportunities, and environmental sustainability. The ultimate goal is to empower immigrant communities through food sovereignty while creating pathways for small-scale farmers to thrive in a cooperative model that promotes sustainable agricultural practices. We want to grow these foods by first assessing the feasibility of growing 5-10 key African crops—including spider plant, African nightshade, pumpkin greens African spinach and amaranth—in the Lower Mainland and their adaptability to local climatic and soil conditions.
