Farm Project Description
I am interested in starting my own market garden style organic farm somewhere in the Lower Mainland or on the South Island.
I want to grow a diverse array of healthy food that is accessible and affordable for my local community. I plan to do this by cultivating a mix of slow and fast growing, fresh and storage crops that I can make available through a large portion of the year and sell my produce at a local farmers markets and through a weekly CSA program, and work to expand into wholesaling to local restaurants and small businesses. I plan to grow sustainably and have experience with certified organic practices and would like to continue with that method, whether that be certified or not.
I grew up in the rural Lower Mainland and moved to the South Island nearly 10 years ago. I have been vegetable farming here for over 6 years now and I have fallen in love with it, and want to continue in agriculture as a lifelong career. I am passionate about food security, sustainability, and building community, and want my farm to reflect that.
