Project
Farm Name
Sustainable Organic Poultry & Vegetable Farm
Farm Project Description
This project envisions the development of a small-scale, certified organic farm, integrating a 399-bird free-range chicken coop with one acre of intensively cultivated organic vegetables. The farm will follow regenerative and sustainable practices to produce high-quality, ethically raised poultry and diverse seasonal produce for local markets.
Organic Chicken Coop (399 chickens): A purpose-built, well-ventilated coop with access to outdoor pasture, designed to meet or exceed BC organic certification standards. Chickens will be raised on non-GMO, vegetarian feed and rotated through pasture to promote soil health and animal welfare.
One Acre Organic Vegetable Plot: The land will be cultivated using no-till and regenerative methods to grow a variety of vegetables such as leafy greens, root crops, tomatoes, squash, and herbs. Crop rotation, composting, and companion planting will be employed to maintain soil fertility and biodiversity.

Zoning
Preferred current state of the surface of the cultivable area
The ideal cultivable area is a fully fenced parcel of approximately 3 acres land with a level or gently sloped terrain suitable for organic farming. The property should include reliable access to water resources (e.g., well or municipal water), electricity for powering essential systems, and road access.
Approximately 1.5 acre will be designated for constructing a chicken coop that houses 350 free-range birds, with part of that acre allocated as open pasture for rotational grazing. The remaining land will be prepared for intensive organic vegetable cultivation using sustainable practices such as composting, crop rotation, and cover cropping.
The land should be free from chemical contamination, with good drainage and healthy soil, or the potential for soil improvement. Proximity to local markets is a plus for farm-to-table distribution.
