Land Seeker Details

Training
  • Farm management (3 years+) - I have over 10 years of hands-on farming experience managing our family farm in Tunisia. I was responsible for planning and growing a variety of crops including peppers, tomatoes, olives, figs, pomegranates, parsley, celery, onions, and carrots. I also have experience with other high-value crops like garlic, spinach, and specialty herbs such as coriander and mint. My responsibilities included land preparation, organic soil management, irrigation setup, seasonal planning, pest control using natural methods, and preparing produce for market. This experience gave me a deep understanding of small-scale farm operations, organic farming, and how to adapt Mediterranean crops to new climates.
  • General farming (3 years+) - I was raised on a multigenerational family farm in Tunisia where I gained broad agricultural experience from a young age. I participated in all aspects of the farming cycle—from seed selection and soil preparation to planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, and post-harvest handling. I worked with a variety of crops including vegetables, herbs, fruit trees, and grains, learning traditional techniques alongside more sustainable and organic practices. This hands-on experience taught me how to work with the land, adapt to climate conditions, and manage farming challenges throughout the seasons.
Do you have a business plan?
Yes - Yes, I have developed a business model canvas that outlines my farm vision, production strategy, key activities, resources, customer segments, and revenue streams. I am currently expanding this into a full business plan with the support of Young Agrarians. The plan focuses on starting a small-scale organic pepper project and gradually expanding to include high-value crops such as olives, figs, pomegranates, parsley, garlic, and leafy greens. It also outlines marketing strategies, land requirements, startup costs, and long-term goals for sustainability and community-based sales.
Do you have financial resources available to start your farm?
Yes - Yes, I have some personal savings available to cover the initial startup costs such as seeds, tools, soil preparation, and irrigation. However, the scale of my investment will depend on the overall costs involved. I am open to exploring partnerships, land-sharing agreements, or government and community farming grants to support the development and sustainability of the project.
Do you have access to other financial resources (such as a financial partner, loan, etc.) to start your farm?'
Yes - Yes, I am currently exploring financial resources to support the early stages and potential expansion of my farm. I am particularly interested in small grants, government or community farming subsidies, and land-based partnerships. I am also open to low-interest microloans or in-kind support through land-sharing agreements, especially those that align with sustainable agriculture and local food systems. My goal is to launch with minimal overhead while ensuring the project has long-term viability.

Project

Farm Name
Mediterranean Earth Farm
Farm Project Description

My name is Kamel, and I recently moved to Surrey, BC. I was raised on a multigenerational family farm in Tunisia, where I developed deep agricultural experience and a lifelong passion for farming. My brother, who also lives in BC, shares this experience with me — we worked side by side on our family farm for many years and plan to collaborate on this project together. Over time, we’ve cultivated a wide range of crops, including peppers, tomatoes, olives, figs, pomegranates, garlic, parsley, celery, spinach, green onions, carrots, Armenian cucumbers, melons, and watermelons... Our farming methods are rooted in sustainable and organic practices, with a strong respect for the land and the rhythms of nature. We are currently seeking to lease between 0.5 and 1 hectare (1.25 acres to 2.5 acres ) to launch a small-scale organic farm, starting with heirloom Tunisian peppers known for their vibrant flavor and high yield. We aim to supply local farmers’ markets, vegetable shops, and restaurants in BC with fresh, culturally rich, and sustainably grown produce. Our long-term vision includes diversifying production to incorporate leafy greens, herbs, melons, and Mediterranean fruits such as figs, pomegranates, and olives — with the eventual goal of producing locally pressed olive oil using Tunisian and Spanish olive varieties. As the farm grows, we also plan to open a small fruit and vegetable shop to serve the wider community with healthy, locally grown food. We understand that starting small is essential, and we’re ready to take one step at a time while learning the local market and growing our capacity. We dream big, and as we gain experience, we aim to invest in expanding the farm and building a sustainable, community-focused agricultural business. We’ve developed a business model canvas and are working on a more detailed business plan with the promised support of Young Agrarians. We’re passionate about sustainable agriculture, committed to starting small and growing responsibly, and excited to contribute to BC’s local food ecosystem with fresh produce that reflects both tradition and innovation.
