Farm Project Description

Our Project aims to establish a 15-100 acre perennial polyculture farm in the Kootenay or Vancouver island region, inspired by Mark Shepard’s Restoration Agriculture model. By transforming degraded or conventionally farmed land into a regenerative, savanna-like ecosystem, the farm will produce high-value crops and livestock products while restoring soil health, sequestering carbon, and enhancing biodiversity. Using no-tillage, Keyline design, and alley cropping, the farm will integrate various fruit tree crops and cold-hardy crops like hazelnuts, chestnuts, apples, plums, pears, peaches, nectarines and berries with understory herbs and fungi. Heritage sheep, cattle, and poultry will graze rotationally, providing meat, eggs, and ecological benefits. The farm will supply organic food to local markets , create jobs, contribute to local food resiliency and potentially host workshops to promote regenerative agriculture.
