Farm Name
Afstar Halal Farm
Farm Project Description
Afstar Halal Farms is a sustainable, vertically integrated halal livestock farming operation dedicated to producing high-quality, halal-certified beef and goat meat for the growing market in British Columbia. Situated on a 20-acre property in the Fraser Valley region (preferably Abbotsford, Chilliwack, or Surrey), the farm will operate under a lease-to-own arrangement, securing long-term land tenure and supporting local agricultural development.
The project encompasses livestock rearing, on-site slaughtering, processing, packaging, and distribution, providing full supply chain control to ensure product quality and halal integrity. In addition to meat production, the farm will generate renewable energy through a biogas system utilizing livestock waste, reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability.
The farm targets a diverse customer base including Muslim households, ethnic markets, restaurants, and conscious consumers seeking premium, locally produced halal meat.
With compliance to CFIA regulations and recognized halal certification, Afstar Halal Farms is poised to reduce BC’s reliance on imported halal meat, tapping into a rapidly growing market and contributing to the region’s food security and sustainable agriculture landscape.

The ideal farmland for Afstar Halal Farms should be:
Cleared and Ready for Use: The land should be free from dense forest or heavy brush, minimizing initial land-preparation costs.
Level or Gently Sloping: A relatively flat area will facilitate construction of barns, feed storage, and a CFIA-approved slaughterhouse, as well as efficient livestock movement.
Good Soil Quality: The soil should be well-drained, fertile, and suitable for cultivating feed crops (such as hay or silage) to reduce external feed costs.
Access to Water: A reliable source of clean water (well, municipal, or irrigation) is essential for livestock and feed production.
Fenced or Easily Fenced: Basic fencing or a perimeter suitable for installing secure livestock enclosures.
Accessibility: Year-round road access for distribution trucks and farm vehicles.
Minimal Environmental Contamination: Land free from industrial pollution, chemical waste, or prior heavy pesticide use.

Need established water source and infrastructure
Livestock Needs: Cattle typically require 30–50 liters of water per head per day (depending on weather and diet). Goats typically require 5–10 liters per head per day. For a farm with 50 cattle and 100 goats, this equals ~2,000–3,000 liters/day (2–3 m³). Processing & Cleaning: Halal slaughtering and facility sanitation require 1,000–2,000 liters/day during processing days. Feed Cultivation: If producing on-site feed, irrigation requirements will vary with crop type and season but may add 5,000–10,000 liters/day during summer months. Estimated Total: 8,000–15,000 liters/day (8–15 m³) in peak operation. Water Infrastructure Needs Primary Source: A deep well system or municipal water connection capable of delivering at least 20 m³/day to cover peak demand. Storage Capacity: Above-ground or underground water storage tanks of 50–100 m³ (50,000–100,000 liters) for reserve supply and emergency needs. Pumping & Distribution: Submersible pumps, pressure systems, and pipelines to supply barns, feed storage areas, and processing units. Water Treatment: Basic filtration and possibly UV or chlorine treatment to ensure food safety standards. Irrigation Setup (if needed): Drip or sprinkler systems for on-site feed crops.
