Farm Project Description
In 2023, I was lucky enough to apprentice at Lady’s Hat Farm, which is Zone 3, Treaty 6 territory, near Castor, Alberta, as one of the 2023 cohort of Young Agrarians Apprentices.
My long-term goal is to operate an event venue where I can grow and provide all the flowers for weddings and events hosted on the property. My business partner, a fellow farmer and chef, would grow and cook the food for the events we hosted on-site.
I would like to start by growing flowers and vegetables, eventually scaling up to include a farm store and a workshop/learning space alongside the venue.
My goal is to create a sustainable and self-sufficient system that supports the health and well-being of the land, animals, people, and community using elements of permaculture, agroforestry, and holistic management. Ideally, the farm system would support a symbiotic relationship between the land, farm animals, community, and wild flora and fauna.
I propose to begin cultivating under 1 acre for cut flowers for 2026. I would like to grow annual and perennial flowers for bouquet subscriptions, weddings, and event florals.
