General farming (3 years+) - Currently own a small 5-1/2 acre farm raising milk goats, for over 30 years Nubians mainly poultry and a cow or 2 for milk and food plus sales every year
Other experience/agricultural/business training - I grew up helping on a farm with cattle , milking and cleaning barns. I managed retail stores for 20+ years with million dollar sales my husband ran heavy duty machinery for 30 years and helped with haying on our cousins property in houston
Do you have a business plan?
No - Every property is unique and requires a different approach once we are looking at a property I’m able to come up with a business model for that property. Such as does said property have hay sales can it have room for 80 head of cattle or is it more suitable for 100 goats My goal is to raise animals for sales and possibly get a farm gate license for butchering at the farm.
Do you have financial resources available to start your farm?
Yes - We own our home with a very small mortgage and would be willing to sell it and use as start up money, for buying livestock and down payment
Do you have access to other financial resources (such as a financial partner, loan, etc.) to start your farm?'
Yes - Grants are always appreciated, investors also depending on the terms
Project
Farm Name
Lone Jack pine Ranch
Farm Project Description
Goal would be for 80-100 head of cattle or 100 plus milk and meat goats plus hay sales to tide over feeding of grain, vet bills and running of farm. I’d start with 25 heifer and a hiefer bull from good stock. Keeping replacements when born selling steers when prices are high. Goats. Kids sell highest in the spring meat sales market usually in September. Goat meat is highly prized and brings a very good profit. Our demographics are changing in Canada with more immigrants and goat meat is being consumed more and more.
