The Langley School District is exploring opportunities to secure land that can be used to support food operations for both district schools and the broader community.
This would form part of the district’s education and engagement work within its food strategy for the coming year and beyond. The intent is to introduce students to the growing, harvesting, and management of crops that can be used in school food programs, as well as in events and initiatives that support the wider community.
Beyond providing a nutritious source of food for schools, this initiative has the potential to become a meaningful learning and development program. It would give students hands-on experience with agriculture, food systems, sustainability, and community food security, while also encouraging greater interest in farming and local food production.
